More and more people are using their mobile phones at the dinner table with their friends and family. In response to this common phenomenon, I have designed a table interaction game to increase interaction between people at the dinner table and to create a good atmosphere at the dinner table, helping people to get rid of their addiction to mobile phones
Background
With the rapid development of smartphones, mobile phones are becoming an essential part of life, bringing convenience to our lives while also influencing our lives. The reliance on mobile phones is like a massive epidemic that has seriously affected our lives
People use their phones in almost every scenario of their lives
The use of mobile phones in bed, in the bathroom, on the road and even at the dinner table takes away the very meaning of the meal and can lead to a loss of human contact and health
Why do people play with their phones at dinner parties?
The effects of playing with your phone during meals
Desk Research
Existing restrictions and regulations on customers playing with their phones during meals
Pros
Guests like these policies, which allow them to talk to each other more and have shorter meals, making the dining experience better
Cons
Customers needing to use their phones for emergencies can have some trouble getting out of the door or unlocking them, etc., which can delay things
Conclusion
So, I wanted to combine the fun of the game, with eating, with a mobile phone call punishment mechanism, to take advantage of people's addiction and competition, and to involve everyone at the table in a table game format to bring people closer together and integrate better, rather than solving the problem in a simple and brutal way
Persona
Questionnaire
Through my research, I wanted to design a game that would allow people to put their mobile phones down during meals and at the same time involve everyone at the table, increasing interaction between people. The game consisted of three parts, a game device, a number of question cards and a mobile phone points app
Ideation
Sketch
The overall design of the hardware, the shape and the buttons are simple and retro themed
Card Design
The theme of the card questions
I want the diner to learn some food-related stories, knowledge, culture, etiquette, etc. during the game, in addition to putting down their phone while eating
Answer side
The correct answer is at the bottom of the back of the card and is upside down, with food motifs on the back about the theme of the question, some of which are even confusing
Question
I found some interesting and not overly complicated food questions and then listed four answers, ABCD, from which the diner only had to choose the correct answer about
Screen Design
The design of the screen is integrated into the flow of the game
Structure
How to play?
Reflection
I invited my family to have a meal and experience the game together and they found it very interesting to answer the questions together at the table and learn a lot about food that they might never have thought of, and the topics got the table very active and engaged in discussion without anyone using their phones

As the person in charge, I was observing everyone participating in the interaction and thinking about how the design was really about being able to get everyone at the table to participate, get off their phones, increase their awareness of each other and their knowledge of food, and create a good atmosphere for the gathering

If it could be improved, I think we could consider adding categories of game card questions to give people a different experience of the topic based on different occasions and segments of the population, such as for family, work bureau, friends, fellowship, etc
